Nishant Chowdhary is a social entrepreneur and an action researcher based in New Delhi, India. He has a Master of Psychology (Psychosocial Clinical Studies) and a Master of Philosophy in Development Practice from Ambedkar University Delhi. For his M.Phil., he worked in tribal villages in Central India on the question of domestic violence and tried to understand how are men to be involved relationally in the process of "gender empowerment" and how to engage them in reflecting sensitively and critically on their own role as perpetrators of domestic violence.

In 2017 he co-founded a social venture called Urban Kyari which works on a low-cost rooftop farming model to address the issue of food security in Delhi. This venture collaboratively works with one of the displaced farming communities in Delhi and provides them with an alternate livelihood option.

From 2015-2018 he worked as a Fellow In Action Research at Ambedkar University Delhi on a project called "Kinare." The idea of the project was to go beyond the readily-accepted jargon of development such as "inclusive development," "participatory development," etc. and try to understand what meanings and experiences marginalized communities attach to these concepts and ideas.

During the same time, he served as a core team member of a documentary film project The River and the City at the Centre for Community Knowledge (AUD), which envisaged bringing out narratives of the communities living along the River Yamuna in Delhi, and through these narratives understand various perspectives around the river.
